Your engine is noisy, it scrapes, it grunts, your bike has kilometres and your mechanic has diagnosed that it is time to change the timing chain.

The chain is subjected to a lot of effort and stretching, and just like a chain-kit, it eventually loosens and stretches. And when the chain is in good condition, everything is perfectly synchronised, down to the degree. But if it is too loose, it can derail or break...

Back to the poor biker who was distracted ?

One broken chain and the whole clockwork goes wrong. You may end up with a good valve soup and extremely expensive damage! And most of the time, the engine ends up... out of service !

Better safe than sorry...

These good quality timing chains will keep your engine alive for many more kilometres. But be careful!  Replacing the timing chain requires some knowledge, it is not a trivial operation. 

Good to know : 

It is rare that only the chain needs to be replaced. The pads and tensioners also wear out. A little advice : consult your mechanic to avoid unpleasant surprises !
